ABOUT MARLEY
Marley is a feminist Director, Screenwriter, and Playwright who was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. What started as Barbie dolls with overly complex backstories and plots developed into a love of storytelling. This, of course, meant studying performing arts, setting a foundation in Theatre training. She eventually transferred these skills in theatre over to filmmaking as Marley began writing and directing her own films.
DIRECTING
Her long-standing passion for directing began as an actress who consistently gave unsolicited creative input. She quickly realized for her vision to come to life she would need to change roles to one where she could call the shots. Marley directed her first short film, Maybe Someday, in the spring of 2023 alongside co-director and visionary cinematographer Tatum Sailors. In the spring of 2024, her sophomore film Circling Back was released, winning awards for best directing and best editing as well as being selected for several festivals around the globe.
SCREENING WRITING
Maybe Someday is a feminist twist of the maiden saved from the tower, was co-written by Councilor and Sailors. In 2022, Marley received The Michelle Julien Memorial Scholarship for excellence in screenwriting for her short film script entitled Test Drive which she hopes to produce in the near future. She is currently working on a mini series as well as three features.
PLAYWRIGHTING
Marley wrote and directed her first full-length play, Handle With Care, at just 15 years old – a hard-hitting commentary on the cyclic nature of domestic abuse. She followed that up with a short feminist play, Concealer, produced by the University of Arizona as a part of their sold-out New Directions Festival in 2022. This play furthered the themes of the earlier play, expanding on how violence is covered up by those in power.
EDUCATION
Marley graduated from University of Arizona with a BFA in Film & Television and a minor in Theatre Arts in 2024. Bear Down!
